Hollywood seems to be capable of making only the most ridiculous movies coz the only thing they care about is themselves and according to them the rest of the world is barbaric and stupid. i doubt Mel Gibson has the slightest idea about nething he is making coz his only purpose is to make a thriller and find situations to put in some nicely shot violence scenes..the only thing that changes from one movie to another is the type of weapons.
I have never seen a more stupid movie, instead of accepting that he is incapable of understanding nething about this evolved culture because he is an idiot he has ended up making a big budget movie for other idiots to feel very nice that they are living in this system and any other system that existed before them was corrupt and violent.
Mel Gibson has shown his own insanity through the movie, and the movie has nothing to do with Mayan Culture which he is also very aware of but sadly i know many people are going to be seeing this movie to form an opinion that all ancient cultures were barbaric and we have made so much progress...overlooking the fact that in fact we are the most barbaric people who ever lived on this planet.

the spanish inquisition was based on them having the wrong religion, the iraq invasion was based on them not having the right 'permissions'..

i beg to differ here and am trying to make a subtle point which might be overlooked. Yes in our culture whoever wins gets to write what they want, but Mayans do not come under the premise of "our culture" (in fact they hardly ever wrote nething, all we have from their era is calendars with the highest precision astronomically) which is very different from "their culture", in fact so different that till today everything about their culture is very mysterious to us.
Our condition is like the Sheep which grows up seeing all sheeps graze grass and knows that's what it is suppose 2 do. Ever since we started writing history we were practicing totalitarian agriculture hence History completely overlooks the fact that in fact totalitarian agriculture might not have been as natural to us as grazing is for sheeps (reason why i find nothing of interest in history which spans 10,000 years, according to me the truth lies in prehistory which spans more then a million years) and that there might be a whole different way of living which probably is more harmonious with the surroundings and comes more naturally to us provided the circumstances have not been manipulated. Of course totalitarian agriculture also started as a need (at least according to Guns, Germs and Steel) but then created totally new dynamics.
If we need to understand or perceive anything about the Mayan culture we need to step outside the boundary of our natural cultural perception. Reason why Anthropology fails to be objective science because it is one thing to observe actions but to truly understand the motive we need to be THE person and that does not fall under objectivity.
